Legal issues lead to season-long suspension for UNLV's Goodman

UNLV coach Dave Rice suspended sophomore Savon Goodman for all of next season, the school announced Saturday night.

Goodman -- who reportedly had a warrant issued for his arrest on Aug. 15 -- is facing two felony charges on first degree burglary and grand larceny stemming from an arrest on May 18, 2013. He is also facing a gross misdemeanor charge of conspiracy to commit burglary. The charges come via a Clark County case file; further details have not been revealed. Goodman has not been convicted and is due in court for arraignment Friday.

"We are aware of the Savon Goodman situation and we are gathering more information," Rice said in a statement. "I will have no comment today specific to this. Having said that, regardless of the resolution, Savon will not play in games this entire season so he can focus on getting his priorities in order."

Rice also told the Las Vegas Sun that Goodman will remain on the team and is scheduled to attend classes when they begin on Monday at UNLV.

Goodman averaged 3.6 points and 2.4 rebounds in nine minutes as a freshman power forward last year. UNLV finished 25-10 and lost in the Round of 64 as a No. 5 seed.
