Top-40 forward Leron Black commits to Illinois

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

Leron Black had four official visits lined up, starting with Illinois this weekend. Baylor was up next, with Indiana and Tennessee scheduled for later in September.

Turns out, Black won't need the remaining three trips.

The 6-foot-7 power forward from White Station (Tenn.) committed on Sunday morning to Illinois, according to his AAU coach Norton Hurd.

The Fighting Illini had momentum heading into the visit, with most people pointing to John Groce's program as the leader for Black. Groce was able to close the deal over the weekend, which gives his team much-needed frontcourt punch for the 2014-15 season. Black runs the floor very well, and is efficient in the lane and around the basket. He's capable of handling the ball and creating matchup problems for opposing power forwards. At the next level, he will need to develop more of a faceup and mid-range game to truly reach his potential.

Black, ranked No. 34 in the 247Sports Composite, is Groce's second commitment in the class of 2014. He joins another frontcourt player, Michael Finke.
