Boyd, a 6-foot-7 forward from Texas, suffered the injury in July and underwent surgery shortly after. According to reports, head coach Jack Perri is hoping Boyd can return to the Blackbirds in January.
The 2012 Northeast Conference Player of the Year first tore his ACL in the eighth game of last season, a 97-70 win over Rice. He was averaging 18.5 points and 6.1 rebounds at the time, after putting up 17.4 points and 9.3 boards during the 2011-12 season.
Boyd also missed the 2009-10 season due to a heart condition, and had been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA to play this season.
