Report: Following collapse, Wichita State frosh undergoes surgery

After spending five days in the hospital last week following his collapse at a team workout, Wichita State freshman D.J. Bowles underwent surgery at the Mayo Clinic, according to a story on Bowles collapsed Sept. 3 at the Shockers' Koch Arena.

UPDATE, 3 p.m. ET: USA Today reports from Wichita that Bowles had surgery on his heart. Shockers coach Gregg Marshall told the paper that Bowles had an internal defibrillator installed.

The operation came Thursday; Bowles tweeted prior to his procedure.

On Friday morning, Bowles retweeted this message.

A report from the Wichita Eagle indicated that surgery was deemed necessary after Bowles went through even more testing at the famed Rochester, Minn., health clinic earlier this week.

Bowles, 18, is from Cleveland, Tenn.
