P.J. Hairston court appearance postponed until October

Indefinitely suspended UNC forward P.J. Hairston will now wait until October to appear in court in relation to a speeding charge, according to the Associated Press.

Hairston was originally scheduled to appear Friday, but he did not show at a Durham County court, his lawyer did, and in fact his date has been postponed until Oct. 11. Hairston's attorney did not offer comment after leaving the courtroom, per the AP.

Hairston was indefinitely suspended at the end of July by Tar Heels coach Roy Williams after he was cited for speeding, reportedly doing 93 MPH in a 65 MPH zone, in Salisbury, N.C. The citation and the suspension came less than a week after Hairston had misdemeanor drug charges against him stemming from a June 5 traffic stop were dropped.

There have been three run-ins with police for Hairston this offseason. The first two came in May and June, when he was driving rental cars tied to an ex-convict, Haydn "Fats" Thomas. At last check, in late August, the NCAA and UNC had not formally attempted to contact Thomas, according to his lawyer. Though the length of Hairston's suspension is still unclear, he is expected to play for the Heels eventually next season.
