This is a daring look -- and I really like it. On Tuesday St. John's coach Steve Lavin let loose on what St. John's will don in the upcoming season. There are two kinds of uniforms, one of which displays portions of the NYC skyline, the other being a throwback to St. John's old unis.
Above, the road. Here, the home.
In nine out of 10 cases, schools' traditional or original uniforms from the '50s, '60s or '70s trump any altered/updated version from this century. The same goes for SJU. This is what the Johnnies wore in recent seasons. And now ...
It's a modern take on a classic look -- and a pretty good choice. Schools often alter uniforms to keep things "fresh" -- and to appease the shoe companies who look to update a program's image and -- you know it's coming -- "brand." St. John's will have a lot of talent this season, and this look might be another thing that keeps them in the national conversation.
Two weeks to go until the start of practices, everybody.
