Kansas transfer Zach Peters cleared to play this season at Arizona

By Matt Norlander | Staff Writer

Arizona's the favorite this season in the Pac-12, and that was given a little boost Thursday night when the school announced Zach Peters would play this season.

Peters was cleared by the NCAA following his waiver request. Peters was a class of 2012 kid, a top-40 forward according to 247, who originally committed to Kansas. Last November he was already announcing he'd be leaving Lawrence, and so he chose to head to Arizona.

"Today's news from the NCAA is very exciting for Zach and his family, as well as our basketball program," Arizona coach Sean Miller said in a statement. "There was a lot of effort and cooperation that went into this waiver process. We'd like to thank the NCAA, the University of Kansas and many members of the Arizona Athletics family for their tireless efforts to make this a reality."

Because of the time of his decision to transfer, it was uncertain if the NCAA would clear him to play in time for this season -- and give him four full years of eligiblity. That has happened, and so the Wildcats have another tall glass of water on their roster. Peters is 6-feet-10 and a physical, mobile player on the block.

"I've tried to remain patient throughout this process, and today's news is definitely a relief," Peters said via release. "I've been making strides physically with the goal of getting back to full competition, and, right now, it's about honoring that process. I'm excited to keep improving and it's great to be able to put my focus on the season ahead."
