The 2013-14 season for Purdue is starting with an exit. Sophomore forward Donnie Hale is leaving the team, the school announced Friday. Matt Painter has granted Hale his release.

“Donnie has expressed his intent to transfer to be closer to home and for his desire for more playing time. We thank him for his hard work and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors,” Painter said in a statement.

Hale played in 32 games last season for the 16-18 Boilermakers. A 6-8, 221 pounds, he averaged 3.8 points and 2.8 boards during his freshman campaign. Hale becomes the fourth player to transfer out of Purdue's program since last season. Anthony Johnson, Jacob Lawson and Sandi Marcus were the other three.
