Tom Izzo has a very special relationship with the students at Michigan State. It's because of his success, his embracing personality and the culture of college basketball at the school that MSU can hold a preseason campout for tickets that's on par with the likes of Kentucky and Duke.
The annual Izzone campout brought a record number of attendees over the weekend; reportedly more than 3,000 people and 1,000 tents held fort at MSU's Munn Field. DJs, basketball hoops set up on the grass, grills everywhere and TVs/video-game setups abounded. Not bad -- considering the event was on the table to be canceled. Good thing it wasn't. Just look at the jump in attendance from last year -- when temperatures were in the 30s -- to this year. MSU's student body really rallied.
And how great is this photo directly below? Awesome, awesome shot of Izzo and the Izzone faithful, who set up camp in order to receive lower-bowl tickets for the basketball season, which makes the Breslin Center one of the most hostile environments in the sport.
MSU's got high expectations this season, what with being a surefire preseason top 10 team in all polls and more than likely being top-five in the eyes of plenty. Two more photos from the weekend here. Man, I cannot wait for the season to start.
Best photo of last night's Izzone Campout that I've seen. Awesome. pic.twitter.com/1XBU1Zyg7z— Mike Wilson (@MikeWScout) September 28, 2013
