Radio hosts to Rick Pitino: 'You stink ... you ruined the Celtics'

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

Louisville head coach Rick Pitino has had a terrific year. He won a national championship in April, had a horse run in the Kentucky Derby, caught an 80-pound marlin, was featured on a bottle on Maker's Mark -- and his team is going to be ranked in the top three heading into the 2013-14 season.

So on Thursday, Pitino went on local Boston radio, the Toucher and Rich Show, to talk about life -- and his new book, The One-Day Contract.

Pitino Boston radio interview

Here's the lengthy transcript.

Fred Toettcher: We are joined by Rick Pitino, former coach of the Celtics, current coach of the Louisville Cardinals, who won the national championship. Rick Pitino, hello!

Pitino: Morning, guys.

Toettcher: You stink. You ruined the Celtics.

And then they spent the next few minutes yucking it up and calling it “awesome” over and over.

Pitino spent four years coaching the Celtics before resigning midway through his fourth season. He went 102-146, never finishing better than fifth in the Atlantic division.

If they wanted to indeed ask questions about Travis Knight's seven-year contract or the Chauncey Billups trade, that would have been fine (albeit a little late). But to drop a corny one-liner and then hang up? Come on.

I'll let Gary Parrish sum it up.
