Mississippi State coach Rick Ray has dismissed Wendell Lewis from the men's basketball program for a violation of team rules, a source told CBSSports.com on Thursday.

An official announcement is expected soon.

A source told CBSSports.com that the dismissal is related to a failed drug test.

This development must be disappointing for Ray, who worked this offseason to help get Lewis a medical hardship and final year of eligibility -- after the 6-foot-9 forward fractured his right patella during a practice last season -- only to see Lewis squander the opportunity in this way. The Alabama native was averaging 8.1 points and 4.9 rebounds at the time of last season's injury. He's the second veteran to leave the program for various reasons in the past month. The other was Jalen Steele, who averaged 10.1 points last season.
