UCLA takes a hit with Trevon Bluiett's decomittment

By Matt Norlander | College Basketball Writer

Citing potential future homesickness, four-star 2014 forward Trevon Bluiett has decomitted from UCLA a month after verbally agreeing to play there. Bluiett plays for Park Tudor High School in Indianapolis, and reportedly the distance between home and L.A. was the only reason Bluiett doubled back on his decision.

The change in heart for the 6-6 wing came Thursday afternoon and is a bit of a hit for new Bruins coach Steve Alford, who went as far as to hire Bluiett's old high school coach in the spring, shortly after Alford took the UCLA job.

“I think the distance part of it played a factor,” his father, Reynardo Bluiett, said, according to the Indy Star. “When he sat down and thought about it, I think the distance from home was hard for him.”

Bluiett could also see the writing on the wall in this sense: Although he's a talent, UCLA will not be short on scorers/wing players going forward due to the 2012 and 2013 players on the roster who look to be there for the next couple of years. Perhaps a clog in the position also pushed him to back out of his verbal commitment.

Already, as of Friday morning, Butler, Xavier and Purdue were said to be "in" on Bluiett, who had as many as 24 teams he was considering -- just over three months ago. Michigan, Indiana and Butler were the schools going hardest at him this summer, according to our own Jeff Borzello. With his recruitment open again, Bluiett will be one of the most coveted 2014 prospects in the midwest.
