VIDEOS: Bill Self has taken an affinity to Will Ferrell characters

By Matt Norlander | Staff Writer

Bill Self can certainly rock a wig, that's for sure.

The coach of the Kansas Jayhawks -- who today were picked in a tie atop the league's preseason poll -- seems to be enjoying the build-up to the season. Winning the past, I don't know, 35 Big 12 regular-season titles will do that for a coach. But for reasons I can't discern, Self and KU Athletics set out to make a shortfilm parody of a Will Ferrell movie that's more than nine years old and has little to do with sports, let alone basketball.

And I couldn't be happier about it. Self, who's known to get his boogie on from time to time, channels his inner Ferrell and basically just riffs on the Anchorman concept for more than four minutes. What's Spanish for "Lawrence," Bill?

At the 2:20 mark, Self is joined at the newdesk by his three assistants -- Jerrance Howard, Norm Roberts and Kurtis Townshend -- acting as the Champ Kind, Brick Tamland, Brian Fantana to his Ron Burgundy, respectively.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues is due out in December, by the way.

This video comes on the heels of last week's release, wherein Self, his team, and a random really old dude (longtime KU play-by-play man Max Falkenstein) aped a scene from 2001's Old School. Now, I can't wait for the parody of Step Brothers. Hopefully Self lassoes Travis Ford into that one.
