Willie Cauley-Stein on zombie apocalypse: 'I got some plans'

By Matt Norlander | College Basketball Writer

I'm comforted, elated, relieved to know that, should the (not "a," but "the") zombie apocalypse arrive in our lifetime, Kentucky's Willie Cauley-Stein is prepared and dead set on not getting turned.

WHY IS THIS VIDEO SO SHORT?! I need more.

How this came up during Kentucky's media day on Tuesday I don't know, but the fact Cauley-Stein is so casual yet readily willing to admit the possibility of the zombie apocalypse makes my week. He said he's prepared to fend off would-be soul-takers based on his viewings of The Walking Dead, AMC's smash hit series about the undead wreaking havoc on a decreasing warm-blooded populus.

Keeping your wits about you while surrounded by a bunch of crazies shouldn't be heard for Cauley-Stein; he does live amongst Kentucky fans, after all.

USA Today profiled Cauley-Stein, providing a portrait of player and person that is eccentric, different from many college players.

"You know, now it's like: That's who I am," Cauley-Stein said. "The way I dress, the way I talk, the way I do things, what I say on Twitter, it's just like that's who you are, so don't try to mask who you are just because of what other people think of you. It's like a thousand pounds off your shoulder. You don't have to worry about that aspect of your life, and you can just do what you were really trying to accomplish."

There's a video embedded in that story linked above, too. Give it a watch and read. Cauley-Stein, who's recovering from a lacerated hand, seems to be one of the more interesting characters in the season ahead.
