West Virginia still awaiting word on freshman Elijah Macon

With less than three weeks until the season tips off, West Virginia is still awaiting word on one of its incoming freshman.

According to sources, forward Elijah Macon has not yet been cleared to suit up this season.

Macon is a 6-foot-8 Ohio native who played at Brewster Academy (N.H.) last season and Huntington Prep (W.Va.) in 2011-12. He was originally expected to join the Mountaineers last fall, but needed a year of prep school.

He enrolled at West Virginia in August, but could be deemed a partial qualifier. That would mean he couldn't practice until the second semester, and wouldn't be able to play during the 2014-15 season.

Last month, head coach Bob Huggins was asked at a press conference whether Macon would play this season. In response, Huggins said, "I would think it is leaning more that way (he will not play) than the other."

Moreover, Huggins mentioned Macon's wrist injury, which he had surgery on last year and again in April. It's still an issue.

"Everybody is eligible to practice except for Elijah," Huggins said. "It's kind of a moot point because of his wrist though. Also, he is unable to run now because he hurt his toe."

Macon was ranked No. 67 in the 247Sports Composite for the class of 2013.
