Pitino: Chane Behanan will be back 'in a short period of time'

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

One week ago, Louisville head coach Rick Pitino announced that starting power forward Chane Behanan was suspended indefinitely.

In fact, he said it was “not probable” that Behanan would come back to the team.

At a book signing on Thursday, though, Pitino said Behanan would return to the Cardinals “in a short period of time.”

From Cole Claybourn of the Messenger-Inquirer (Ky.):

More from Claybourn's story:

"Short is relative, now," Pitino said. "I don't say in the next couple of weeks. He's doing the right things right now. I was skeptical about a week ago, but so far this week he's put in everything we've asked him to do. It's not easy for him.

"It won't be any time in the next couple of weeks, but I expect him back."

Behanan, a 6-foot-6 junior, averaged 9.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game last season. He was ranked No. 39 in our top 100 players in the country list, and is a key aspect of Louisville's attempt to repeat as national champions.

The Cardinals, who are ranked No. 2 in the CBSSports.com Top 25 (and one), open the season on Nov. 9 against Charleston.
