VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Villanova will be starting its season without sophomore shooting guard Dylan Ennis, who broke his right hand this week.
Ennis , a righty, casually smacked the back of his paw against the knee of freshman Nova forward Darrell Reynolds during a "dummy offense" drill on Thursday, Jay Wright told CBSSports.com. Ennis fractured his third metacarpal bone, and he'll be out definitively for four weeks, whereupon he'll go under reexamination.
Ennis, a transfer from Rice, sat out last season after leaving the Owls in 2012.
"They say six to eight weeks, so when the doctors say that, there's potential he could be back in six weeks. That's what I'm hoping for," Wright said Friday night. "It was a freak (play) that happened on Thursday."
Villanova held its Hoop Mania 2013 festival on Friday night, a tradition it's been doing for years now. Ennis, who won the dunk contest at the 2012 Hoops Mania, was forced to sit out and judge this year's competition, which was won by fellow sophomore Daniel Ochefu.
