Colorado redshirt freshman Chris Jenkins leaves program

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

Chris Jenkins is leaving Colorado, head coach Tad Boyle announced on Monday.

Jenkins, a 6-foot-7 small forward from Detroit, redshirted last season and would have had four years of eligibility remaining.

Jenkins was a three-star prospect back in the class of 2012, choosing the Buffaloes over mostly mid-major schools.

Heading into the 2013-14 season, Jenkins was expected to play a frontcourt role off the bench. Wesley Gordon and Josh Scott seem entrenched as the starters in the two post positions, while sophomore Xavier Johnson could be poised for a breakout season at the small forward spot. Without Jenkins, look for freshman Tre'shaun Fletcher to take on a bigger role. The lefty was a very good scorer at the high school level, with the ability to get points in different ways.

Colorado opens its season on Friday against Baylor in Dallas.
