With Virginia Tech's season five days away from starting, Hokies head coach James Johnson announced Monday afternoon junior forward C.J. Barksdale will sit the first three games of the year.

Barksdale is being forced to miss three games due to "a violation of team rules." The school said he'll continue practicing with the team and is scheduled to return to game action on Monday, Nov. 18, when Va. Tech hosts Virginia Military Institute.

“I am disappointed in C.J.," Johnson said in a statement. “He is a young man who made a bad decision and now must deal with the consequences. I know that he will come back from this suspension and continue be a valuable member of this program.”

The school added, "This will be the only comment about the situation by any member of the Virginia Tech Athletics staff, coaching staff, basketball team or Barksdale."

Virginia Tech first plays at noon, at home, against USC Upstate on Saturday. Games two and three will be against West Virginia (Nov. 12) and Western Carolina (Nov. 15).
