NCAA approves waiver for Maryland's Jonathan Graham

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

With two days until the season tips off, the last of the key transfer waiver applicants has now been decided.

The NCAA declared Maryland junior Jonathan Graham immediately eligible to play on Wednesday evening, approving his request for a waiver.

“We're excited for Jonathan that he is immediately eligible for the upcoming season,” head coach Mark Turgeon said in a statement. “Our administration did an outstanding job working diligently on Jonathan's behalf.”

Graham, a 6-foot-8 Baltimore native, averaged 2.8 points and 3.2 rebounds in two seasons at Penn State. He should be able to provide depth behind sophomores Charles Mitchell and Shaq Cleare, as well as Michigan transfer Evan Smotrycz.

Maryland opens its season Friday against Connecticut, in Brooklyn.
