La Salle's Giannini says Mills will play in opener

By Jon Rothstein | CBS Sports

La Salle guard Sam Mills will play on Saturday vs. Manhattan despite a recent ankle injury, Explorers coach John Giannini told CBSSports.com on Thursday morning.

The 6-2 Mills averaged 8.0 points per game last season and led La Salle, which reached the Sweet 16, in minutes played.

Giannini also said that Khalid Lewis will likely be out until the Explores' third game of the season on 11/19 at Penn State due to a wrist injury.

Mills' return ensures that La Salle will redshirt talented freshman Amar Stukes, who will take over next season at point guard for Tyreek Duren.

Despite losing Duren, Mills, and senior guard Tyrone Garland at the end of the year, the Explorers' perimeter should still be potent next season with Stukes and transfers Jordan Price (Auburn) and Cleon Roberts (Georgia Southern).
