Washington's Simmons out 6-8 weeks with knee injury

By Jon Rothstein | CBS Sports

Washington forward Desmond Simmons will have arthroscopic knee surgery on Thursday and miss the next six to eight weeks, the school confirmed to CBSSports.com.

The 6-foot-7 junior averaged 4.9 points and 6.5 rebounds last season for the Huskies.

Without Simmons in the lineup, look for Washington to start either Jernard Jarreau or Shawn Kemp Jr. at power forward. Jarreau had 17 points, nine rebounds, and five assists during the Huskies' exhibition game on Wednesday night.

Washington, which finished 18-16 and reached the NIT last season, opens 2013-14 on Sunday at home against Seattle.
