Fordham big man Ryan Canty takes leave of absence

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

Fordham will be without Ryan Canty for the foreseeable future, as the school announced Monday that the junior big man will take a leave of absence from the team to “address personal issues.”

“We want only what is best for Ryan Canty as he addresses these issues,” head coach Tom Pecora said in a statement. “We will continue to support Ryan in any way we can. We ask that everyone respect his privacy at this time and we wish Ryan and his family the best as he moves forward.”

Canty, a 6-foot-9 center from Massachusetts, averaged 6.0 points and 7.0 rebounds last season. Through three games this year, he is averaging 3.3 points and 3.3 rebounds. His minutes have dipped from more than 18 to just 13.0.

Fordham (2-1) takes on Sacred Heart this Saturday.
