Polls: MSU holds on to top spot, VCU plummets out of rankings

By Matt Norlander | Staff Writer

Michigan State is still the No. 1 team in the country after going 2-0 last week to improve to 6-0 for the first time since the 2000-01 season.

The AP and USA Today/ESPN Coaches polls were released Monday afternoon with no change in the top two. Louisville, however, did stumble, and Oklahoma State moved up a notch.

Strangely enough, MSU has never gone three straight weeks atop the polls, so if Sparty can win against Mount St. Mary's at home on Friday, it will presumably set a new school record.

Iowa is in the AP poll for the first time in seven eight seasons, and UMass appears in the regular season for the first time this century; the last sighting for the Minutemen in the AP Top 25 came during the 1998-99 campaign. UMass and New Mexico essentially swapped, as the Lobos fell out after losing to UMass last week.

Remember, be sure to check our Top 25 (and one) every day this season. Check it now, as we also have MSU No. 1, but there are differences elsewhere.
