VIDEOS/PHOTOS: Taylor's 'Silent Night' as festive, loony as ever

By Matt Norlander | College Basketball Writer

If you're a college hoops fan who's somehow unfamiliar with Taylor University's "Silent Night" tradition, read its background here. Last year's version has a cool story connected to it as well.

After the same guy -- Casey Coons -- hit the crowd-inducing basket for the past four years, a new player would have the chance to do the booming honor for Taylor this season.

His name is Ben Raichel, a senior guard, and his 3-pointer with 15:24 left in the first half put Taylor up 10-5 on Indiana Dabney. That's when everyone went bonkers; this is a tradition I must attend in person at some point soon.

As is the case in most years, Taylor won its Silent Night game, this time a 94-72 final.

And as always, at the end of the game, the fans go shoulder-to-shoulder and sing the Christmas carol. Pretty great how this game touches on a range of emotions and sounds, and ends with this harmony.
