Drake guard Gary Ricks Jr. to miss rest of season with foot injury

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

Drake senior Gary Ricks Jr. will miss the rest of the season with a fractured bone in his left foot, the school announced Wednesday.

Ricks, a 6-foot-1 guard, had been the perfect complement to big-time scorer Richard Carter. Ricks was the team's second-leading scorer (12.3 ppg), leading assist man (3.6 apg), best 3-point shooter (45 percent) – and also contributed on the glass, averaging 3.8 rebounds per game.

Ray Giacoletti and the Bulldogs will sorely miss him, as Ricks had been one of the breakout players of the Missouri Valley Conference. He went for 25 points, five rebounds and five assists against Fresno State in an impressive road win at the end of November.

Drake is 6-2 so far, with four non-league games remaining. With Ricks, the Bulldogs could have pushed for a top-half finish in the Valley. Without him, Giacoletti will need role players to step up.
