UNLV freshman Jamal Aytes transferring

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

After arriving on campus just four months ago, UNLV freshman Jamal Aytes has decided to leave the program.

The school announced the news in a release.

“We thank Jamal for his contributions and wish him the best in the future,” head coach Dave Rice said in a statement.

Aytes, a 6-foot-6 forward from JSerra Catholic (Calif.), was one of the best 2013 prospects available in the summer. He impressed on the AAU circuit with Dream Vision, and chose the Runnin' Rebels over BYU, with heavy interest from Gonzaga, West Virginia and others.

Aytes played in just four of UNLV's seven games this season, averaging 9.3 minutes.

“I have enjoyed my time at UNLV, but transferring gives me a better opportunity for playing time sooner in my career,” Aytes said.

Expect him to get plenty of interest on the transfer market.
