UNLV transfer Jamal Aytes is heading to BYU

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

Back in August, Jamal Aytes was one of the best unsigned high school players left on the board. He decided to choose UNLV over BYU, among others.

Four months later, he's going the opposite way.

Aytes, who announced earlier this week that he was leaving UNLV, will join BYU next semester.

“I'm looking forward to being a part of BYU basketball,” Aytes said in a statement. “I feel very comfortable with the coaching staff and I think I'll fit in really well. This is where I want to finish my college career.”

Aytes, a 6-foot-6 power forward, played in four games this season for the Runnin' Rebels. He averaged 2.8 points in 9.3 minutes. However, he was very impressive over the spring and summer with the Dream Vision AAU program.

He could make an impact at BYU when eligible.

“Jamal will be a great addition to our program,” BYU head coach Dave Rose said. “We're excited to have him on our team. He's an excellent low-post scorer and will have a positive impact on our front line.”
