Dear college hoop fans: Clear your schedule for Saturday afternoon

The best thing about the week ahead of us is obviously Christmas.

Trees and presents and time with the family and stuff.

But the second best thing, I think, is Saturday's showdown between Louisville and Kentucky because it's a game between rival programs with rival coaches, and it's a big opportunity for both sides. Louisville needs that game so that it can avoid entering 2014 without a single win over a school rated in the top 75 at KenPom.com. Kentucky needs it because a loss would double as a home loss that would drop the preseason No. 1 to 9-4.

So the stakes will be high at Rupp Arena on Saturday.

But did you realize Louisville-Kentucky won't even be the weekend's best game in terms of rankings? That honor belongs to Syracuse-Villanova. Those schools are currently ranked third and fifth in the Top 25 (and one). Both are 11-0. Both seem better than most anticipated.

So, bottom line, clear your schedule for Saturday afternoon.

  • Syracuse-Villanova tips at 2 p.m. EST.
  • Louisville-Kentucky tips at 4 p.m. EST.

Would it be shameless for me to remind you that both games will be on CBS?

Anyway ...

The Top 25 (and one) updates every morning and also on Sunday nights.
