Providence frosh Austin, Bullock suspended for season

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

Providence freshmen Brandon Austin and Rodney Bullock will not play this season, the school announced Monday.

Austin and Bullock will be able to practice with the team.

The two newcomers have been suspended since November, when the Friars announced they were indefinitely for “not upholding their responsibilities as student-athletes.”

Neither has played yet this season.

“We hold our student-athletes to very high standards,” head coach Ed Cooley said in a statement when they were initially suspended. “We are disappointed in some of the choices that Brandon and Rodney have made. Due to this, we have decided to suspend them indefinitely from any game action.”

The school hasn't given many details on the reasons behind the suspensions, with Cooley telling reporters in December: "We're going to abide by the college code. If they can't play, they'll be cheerleaders."

Providence is 10-2 this season, with a road game coming up against Massachusetts on Saturday. Cooley is also without point guard Kris Dunn, who is sidelined for the rest of the year with a shoulder injury.
