Updated Top 25 (and one)

Louisville is still ranked first at KenPom and sixth in the Sagarin ratings. But the Cardinals' body of work remains OK at best because they've only played two opponents (North Carolina and Kentucky) ranked in the top 60 at KenPom, and they've lost to both of them.

Put another way, Rick Pitino's team is 11-2 with two losses to three-loss schools.

And the Cardinals' best win is a victory over Southern Miss.

So there's no perfect way to rank Louisville, is there?

On one hand, I don't believe there are 10 teams better than the Cardinals. But, on the other, I can't see how they deserve to be ranked any better than the 15-to-20 range considering they'll enter 2014 with A) zero wins over opponents seemingly capable of earning at-large bids to the NCAA tournament, and B) two losses to teams that are talented but flawed.

So I settled on 20th.

That's too low based on the computer ratings but too high based on the resume.

Yeah, like I wrote earlier, there's no perfect way to rank Louisville.

Regardless, the Top 25 (and one) has a new No. 2 because I finally moved Syracuse ahead of Ohio State after the Orange handled Villanova on Saturday. My explanation for previously having the Buckeyes ahead of the Orange was that I've forever had the Buckeyes ahead of the Orange, and that the Buckeyes -- who are 13-0 with 12 double-digit victories -- had done nothing to prove they don't deserve to be ahead. Each of those things remains true, I suppose. But Syracuse now has two wins over schools ranked in the top 10 of the Top 25 (and one) while Ohio State has zero wins over currently ranked schools, and Syracuse now has three wins (Villanova, Baylor, Minnesota) better than Ohio State's best (Marquette), according to KenPom. That, I think, is a little too much to ignore, and, frankly, I didn't feel like trying to defend Ohio State ahead of Syracuse anymore. So Ohio State isn't ahead of Syracuse anymore. (Congrats, Syracuse fans. Your lobbying has paid off.)

Anyway ...

The Top 25 (and one) updates every morning and also on Sunday nights.
