Polls: Duke falls out of top 10 for first time in six and a half years

By Matt Norlander | College Basketball Writer

It was Nov. 25, 2007. What about that day makes it notable? It was the last time Duke wasn't ranked in the top 10 of the Associated Press' men's college basketball poll. Until Monday. Duke's 79-77 loss at Notre Dame Saturday night caused the Blue Devils to fall out of the top 10, ending a streak of 122 straight weeks among the sport's best in the preeminent poll.

The 122-week run is the second-longest in college hoops history; John Wooden's UCLA team once went 155 in a row as a top-10 team. Now the longest active top-10 streak belong's to Michigan State; the Spartans are ranked in the top 10 for the 16th week in a row, landing again at No. 5.

And thanks to losses from Oklahoma State and Duke, Villanova and Iowa State have cracked the top 10, the latter for the first time this season. San Diego State's win at Kansas put the Aztecs at No. 13, while four-loss KU remains comfortably ranked at No. 18.

The Wildcats of Arizona make it five straight weeks atop the polls. They've got a challenge ahead with a road game at UCLA on Thursday.
