Vanderbilt dismisses leading scorer Eric McClellan

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

On Wednesday evening, Vanderbilt announced that sophomore Eric McClellan would miss the rest of the season due to a “violation of university academic policy.” He was expected to be reinstated after the spring semester.

Things have changed in the past two days.

The Commodores have now dismissed McClellan from the team and he is no longer expected to be back in the program for the summer.

“McClellan will not be a part of the program in the future, based upon newly discovered information that came to light Wednesday evening,” a statement from the school said.

McClellan, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard, was the team's leading scorer this season. He was averaging 14.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists, including a 29-point performance in a loss to Butler earlier this season.

Vanderbilt dropped to 8-5 in an SEC-opening loss at Alabama on Tuesday, a game in which McClellan didn't play. The Commodores host Kentucky on Saturday.
