Ex-Tar Heel P.J. Hairston heading to the D-League

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

We now know the next step in P.J. Hairston's basketball career.

The former North Carolina swingman is heading to the NBA Developmental League.

"I have enrolled in an online course at the University of North Carolina, taking a class in my major that will be applied towards getting my communications degree. I turned in my first assignment yesterday," Hairston said in a statement, according to the Greensboro News & Record.

"Additionally, I am pursing an opportunity to play basketball in the NBA's Developmental League, and submitted my paperwork this afternoon."

Hairston had been suspended since the summer while the NCAA investigated rental cars he drove in the offseason. The cars were linked to an ex-convict and party promoter in the area. North Carolina announced on December 20 that it would not apply for Hairston's reinstatement. In other words, his college career with the Tar Heels was over.

Hairston is projected as a late-first round pick by some NBA draft outlets.
