Tennessee freshman Robert Hubbs out for season with shoulder injury

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

Tennessee will have to wait until next season to get the full impact of Robert Hubbs III.

The talented freshman will miss the rest of the season with an injury to his left shoulder, the school announced on Friday evening. Hubbs will undergo surgery next week.

Hubbs, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard from Dyer County (Tenn.), was a five-star recruit from the class of 2013. He has played in 12 games for the Volunteers this season, averaging 5.0 points and 1.5 rebounds in a bench role. He hasn't played since a December 30 win over Virginia, missing the last two games.

With guards Antonio Barton and Jordan McRae both moving on next season, though, Hubbs should have a much-expanded role on the perimeter. He is a terrific offensive player, with the ability to go off the bounce or knock down shots from behind the arc.

Tennessee is 10-4 heading into a Saturday game against Texas A&M. The Volunteers have won four in a row.
