Updated Top 25 (and one)

There was a moment during Bill Self's postgame press conference late Saturday when he was asked about the strength of the Big 12, and the answer somehow evolved into a conversation about whether any other league has had a higher percentage of its schools ranked this season, at which point I realized I never pay attention to such things.

Seriously.

Readers often accuse writers of being biased toward certain leagues, and I suppose some are for whatever reason. But, hand to heart, I can tell you that I never think of things in those terms, and, if you would've asked this morning, I could not have told you how many leagues -- or schools from certain leagues -- were represented in the Top 25 (and one).

But I can now.

Because I just looked.

Here's how it breaks down:

  • Big 12: 5
  • Big Ten: 5
  • American: 4
  • ACC: 3
  • Atlantic 10: 2
  • Big East: 2
  • SEC: 2
  • Missouri Valley: 1
  • Mountain West: 1
  • Pac-12: 1

As you can see, five of the Big 12's 10 members -- specifically Kansas, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Kansas State and Oklahoma -- are ranked in the current Top 25 (and one), and Baylor and Texas aren't far off. That suggests this league that seemed on the verge of extinction just a few years ago could theoretically place 70 percent of its members in the Field of 68, which would obviously be a nice accomplishment.

Anyway ...

The Top 25 (and one) updates every morning and also on Sunday nights.

Here's the latest version:
