George Washington is headed for one of the biggest turnarounds in the country this season, but the Colonials' took a hit on Tuesday morning.

Sophomore guard Kethan Savage will miss the next six-to-eight weeks with a fractured metatarsal in his left foot.

"It's disappointing for Kethan to have this happen in the middle of his breakout sophomore season, but as a team we've dealt with injuries before and have emerged stronger as a unit," head coach Mike Lonergan said in a statement. "We'll look forward to his return to action, but I have every bit of confidence that we'll overcome Kethan's absence. In the meantime, this is a great opportunity for all his teammates to step up at this time. That is a mark of a great team. We are all very excited for the rest of the season ahead."

Savage has been one of the most improved players in the Atlantic 10, and is averaging 13.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.0 steals. His athleticism and ability to get to the rim has been a major asset for George Washington, and part of the reason the Colonials are off to a 15-3 start this season. Savage had 17 points, four rebounds, five assists and four steals in Saturday's win over St. Bonaventure.

The timetable would put Savage's return around the Atlantic 10 tournament or the NCAA tournament. Without Savage, sixth man scorer Patricio Garino could be more of an asset. Prior to Saturday's four-point effort, Garino had averaged 17.5 points in his previous four games – including a 25-point, seven-rebound performance against VCU last week.

George Washington plays at George Mason on Saturday.
