Late Saturday, after he'd just hit five of the six 3-pointers he attempted in an upset of Michigan State, Nik Stauskas did what any college student does immediately following a big moment. He took to Twitter. (Duh!)
"People can say whatever they want about us!," Stauskas tweeted, at which point, in my best Erin Andrews voice, I wanted to ask, "Who is saying stuff about you?"
Either way, who cares? If Stauskas and his Michigan teammates are playing with a so-called chip on their collective shoulders, good for them. Because it's working. Proof is that the Wolverines started last week with a 75-67 win over No. 10 Iowa in which Stauskas got 26 points, five assists and five rebounds, then closed it with an 80-75 win at Michigan State in which Stauskas got 19 points, four assists and two rebounds. The sophomore, in those two wins, was 15-of-26 from the field, including 9-of-15 from 3-point range, and those victories combined with those numbers are why he's the CBSSports.com National Player of the Week.
Keep this up, and Stauskas will next join the National Player of the Year conversation.
He's averaging 18.5 points, 3.8 assists and 3.7 rebounds.
His Wolverines are 7-0 in the Big Ten and ranked 10th in the Top 25 (and one).
