Nebraska dismisses third-leading scorer Deverell Biggs

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

Deverell Biggs has only played in 15 games for Nebraska during his career in Lincoln, but it's been a tumultuous two seasons.

On Tuesday, it came to an end.

Nebraska announced that Biggs had been dismissed from the team.

“I've made the very difficult decision that Deverell Biggs will no longer be a part of our basketball program. We have consistently emphasized accountability for our student-athletes on the court, off the court and in the classroom. Individual accountability affects the entire group. As a basketball program, we are moving forward and perhaps a fresh start for Deverell may be beneficial to him as well,” head coach Tim Miles said in a statement.

“Deverell will still have access to all of our academic resources to maintain his eligibility and progress toward graduation. Deverell is good young man. My hope is that he remains at Nebraska and finishes his classes this spring and finds another program where he can flourish. We wish him all the best.”

Biggs has already had some issues since becoming Miles' first signee at Nebraska in April 2012. He was cited for suspicion of DUI and leaving the scene of an accident in December 2012, while he was redshirting. He was then suspended in July for violation of team rules. He missed the first two games of the regular season in November, and also didn't play against Minnesota on Sunday.

Biggs, a 6-foot junior guard, averaged 9.9 points and 3.3 rebounds this season.
