Bracketology: Ohio State finally gets a big win

In a battle of teams that have been struggling mightily, Ohio State beat Wisconsin, filling two big holes in its tournament résumé. The Buckeyes moved up five spots in the bracket by getting their first win over a likely tournament team, and by doing it on the road. That is similar to what happened for Louisville when the Cards did the same thing when they won at Connecticut a couple of weeks ago.

Texas is also soaring up the bracket. The Longhorns are up two more spots after beating Kansas over the weekend. It wasn't that long ago that people were wondering if this might be Rick Barnes' last year in Austin. That question isn't coming up as much right now.

Arizona took its first defeat of the season at Cal, but that wasn't the bad news. The bad news was the loss of forward Brandon Ashley for the season with a foot injury. The Wildcats will have to adjust to playing without him quickly. The committee will put more weight on how they do from this point on when it comes to seeding. They won't ignore the past, but future performance will be important. Fortunately, Arizona has a lot of talent still, and a No. 1 seed isn't out of the question.

Michigan State could stand to get healthy soon. The Spartans lost a nonconference game to Georgetown while still playing without Adrien Payne and Branden Dawson. For now, Michigan State has dropped off the top line, replaced by San Diego State.

That's also a huge win for the Hoyas, but not enough to get them into the bracket. They have few quality wins, but also a few bad losses. Right now, they just need to find some consistency and put a winning streak together.
