Report: Saint Mary's adds Stanford transfer Aaron Bright

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

Saint Mary's has a lot of work to do to get back in the NCAA tournament hunt, but head coach Randy Bennett is also building next year's team.

The Gaels picked up Stanford transfer Aaron Bright on Monday night, ESPN.com's Jeff Goodman reported.

Bright, a 5-foot-11 point guard, will be eligible immediately due to the graduate transfer rule. Bright dislocated his shoulder in December, and underwent season-ending surgery. However, he is planning to graduate so he can play his final season with the Gaels.

He was averaging 5.9 points through seven games this season, a notch below his 9.3 points and 3.4 assists from a year ago.

Saint Mary's already has Minnesota transfer Joe Coleman sitting out, meaning Bennett could have a new high-major backcourt to start the season. The Gaels have three seniors in the lineup this season, including guard Stephen Holt.

They are 19-8 overall, 9-5 in the West Coast Conference.
