Jim Boeheim admits his on-court tirade at Duke 'went too far'

Four days removed from his first career ejection in a regular season game, Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim copped to going "too far" in his on-court tirade at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Boeheim's double technical foul had him tossed with 10.4 to go in Syracuse's 66-60 loss at Duke Saturday night. At the time of the hook Syracuse was trailing by two points but had just lost possession after senior star forward C.J. Fair was called for a charge along the baseline.

You can see the play and the now-infamous video of Boeheim's fulmination above. In the aftermath of the Saturday's game, Boeheim said at his press conference that he did not regret doing what he did.

But on Colin Cowherd's "The Herd" ESPN radio program Wednesday morning, Boeheim admitted his actions were over the line. Via ESPN.com:

"There's no question, I went too far. In my mind, the game was over. That was really the call that got to me.
"Would you rather not do that? Probably. But when you're in the middle of that moment and you're involved in a game like that and you feel that the game is gone because of this play, you lose control of your emotions."
Boeheim said even without the technicals, the Orange would've faced a four-point deficit with eight seconds left.
"I would say that's a mathematical impossibility that we'd win the game, down four," Boeheim said. "But you can make a case: Their ball, you steal it and you could tie the game. ... Absolutely. I'll have to live with that one."

The ACC on Sunday announced it would not seek any punishment for Boeheim's curse-littered histrionic display toward official Tony Greene, the man who tossed the 69-year-old coach.

Syracuse (26-2) is ranked fourth in the most recent CBSSports.com Top 25 (and one) and next plays at No. 14 Virginia (23-5) on Saturday.
