San Diego State has a difficult road trip to UNLV before the season-ending showdown with New Mexico, but the Aztecs won't have to deal with one of the Runnin' Rebels' best players.

UNLV junior forward Roscoe Smith will miss Wednesday's game with a concussion, the school announced Sunday night.

“Roscoe was evaluated today and was determined to have a concussion,” head coach Dave Rice said in a statement. “He will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis, but he will miss Wednesday's game against San Diego State."

Smith, a 6-foot-8 from Baltimore, has been outstanding this season after transferring from Connecticut. He is averaging 11.0 points and 11.0 rebounds on the season, ranking fifth natioanlly with 15 double-doubles. He has started every game for the Runnin' Rebels this season.

With Smith out, expect freshman Christian Wood to see a bigger role. The slender 6-foot-10 forward has a soft shooting touch, and is playing well lately. Wood didn't play against Air Force over the weekend due to illness, but he averaged 8.0 points and 6.7 rebounds (along with five blocks) off the bench in the three games prior.

The next update on Smith's status will be Tuesday afternoon.
