No matter how poorly things are going, even in early February, you're never really too far on the wrong side of the bubble in college basketball as long as you play in a power conference that'll provide plenty of opportunities to collect quality wins down the stretch.

Baylor is the perfect example.

The Bears were 14-9 overall, 2-8 in the Big 12 after an 88-72 loss at Oklahoma on Feb. 8. But they've rallied to win seven of their past eight games with the lone loss coming at Texas late last month, and now Scott Drew's team is safely in Jerry Palm's latest Bracketology.

Baylor is currently projected as a No. 8 seed.

Kenny Chery is largely responsible for that reality.

He finished with 16 points, six assists and three rebounds in last Tuesday's win over Iowa State, then backed that with 29 points, six assists and six rebounds in Saturday's win at Kansas State. Consequently, Chery is the CBSSports.com National Player of the Week.

"Kenny was huge," Drew said after Saturday's win in which Chery finished 8 of 13 from the field and 13 of 14 from the free throw line.

Chery is averaging 11.7 points, 5.0 assists and 2.7 rebounds this season. In this eight-game stretch that has featured wins over Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Iowa State and Kansas State (twice), the junior point guard is averaging 15.9 points, 6.1 assists and 4.5 rebounds.
