After 25 years at the school, South Dakota head coach Dave Boots suddenly retired in early September. Boots was replaced quickly with interim head coach Joey James, but now the Coyotes are ready to look for a permanent man for the job.
The school announced on Tuesday afternoon that they were hiring the Fogler Consulting search firm to aid with a national head coaching search.
“As we stated in October, the men's basketball coaching position at the University of South Dakota is one that merits a national search,” athletic director David Herbster said. “We committed to conducting a search process then, and we are following through with that commitment now.
“Our status as a Division I institution and our affiliation with the Summit League, along with the academic reputation of the University, makes this a highly attractive position. We owe it to our student-athletes, fans and community to conduct a comprehensive and thorough search.”
South Dakota lost to Denver in the Summit League tournament on Sunday. The Coyotes went 6-8 in the league this season, finishing 12-18 overall.
