Unbeaten UConn, Notre Dame lead NCAA women's field

Connecticut and Notre Dame, the two powerhouse unbeatens of women's basketball, were awarded top seeds on opposite sides of the bracket Monday night when the NCAA women's tournament pairings were released .

The Huskies (34-0) and Fighting Irish (32-0) could meet in the national championship game as the Huskies seek their record ninth title. UConn is also pursuing the fifth perfect season in school history and can join Baylor as the only program with 40-win seasons.

The NCAA awarded the other top seeds to South Carolina and Tennessee , which was named a No. 1 seed for the 22nd time and is making its 33rd straight appearance in the NCAAs.

The tournament begins Saturday at regional sites, with the Final Four scheduled for April 6 and 8 in Nashville, Tenn.
