Above, I've put together a map, Google-style, of the teams in the 2014 NCAA Tournament. Locations and color-coded according to region. The South is blue, the East is green, the West is yellow and the Midwest red-purple. The thumbtacks are the sites of all the games for the first weekend.

You can zoom in and out of that map, and also open it in a new window to get a larger view. The mileages listed on the map and below are approximate.

So which teams got the worst travel arrangements? Here are the schools traveling the longest distances:

Harvard to Spokane: 2,259 miles
VCU to San Diego: 2,239
Delaware to Spokane: 2,126
Oregon to Milwaukee, 1,749
Providence to San Antonio: 1,737

I'll note that Harvard had to fly to Salt Lake City as a 14 seed last year, where it beat No. 3 New Mexico. Two years back, VCU was shipped to Portland. It beat Wichita State in a 5-12 matchup.

Shortest distances:

Duke to Raleigh: 21 miles
Wisconsin to Milwaukee: 79
Florida to Orlando: 111
UCLA to San Diego: 134
Coastal Carolina to Raleigh: 138

For a cleaner, logo-ized view of this year's field here's a look, via Reddit. You get an idea of how weak the southeast part of the country was this year, and generally see how less-populated the country is in D-I hoops schools west of the Rockies.
