Xavier's Chris Mack emerges as legitimate target at Wake Forest

Xavier coach Chris Mack has emerged as a legitimate candidate to replace Jeff Bzdelik at Wake Forest, multiple sources told CBSSports.com on Monday.

Mack has made four NCAA Tournaments in five seasons at Xavier, including two Sweet 16s. He was previously an assistant under Skip Prosser at Wake Forest from 2001 to 2004, at which point the now 44-year-old developed relationships with several influential boosters. Sources told CBSSports.com that some of those boosters are now endorsing the candidacy of Mack, who is widely viewed as one of the top young coaches in college basketball.

"He is being targeted for sure," one source told CBSSports.com.

Wake Forest fired Bzelik last week.

Bzdelik never finished better than tied for ninth in the ACC.
