Was this expected? Not by any means, but here are the Huskies, in Kevin Ollie's first tournament with the team, going to the regional final on Sunday. It's the program's 11th trip to the Final Four's doorstep.
In beating No. 3 Iowa State 81-76 Friday night at Madison Square Garden, UConn became the eighth team in modern tournament history to reach the Elite Eight. The NCAA began seeding teams in 1979. In 1985, it expanded the field from 48 to 64 teams.
No No. 7 seed has ever reached the Final Four in the 64-plus-team era. Seven seeds are 0-4 against No. 1s, 0-2 against No. 4s and 0-1 against No. 8s. Here's the history:
