North Carolina is losing James Michael McAdoo.
The university announced Thursday that the 6-foot-9, 230-pound junior forward will bypass one more year of college, opting instead to enter his name into the 2014 NBA Draft. McAdoo was an All-ACC Second Team member this past season.
"I am thankful for everything I have been blessed to experience from my relationships with coach Williams and his staff, to my current and former teammates and to the fact that I am so close to earning my degree from such a great institution," McAdoo said in a statement. "Without a doubt I plan to come back and finish my degree. That is important to me."
McAdoo averaged 14.2 points and 6.8 rebounds this season. North Carolina earned a No. 6 seed and fell in the Round of 32 to Iowa State.
In a statement, Tar Heels coach Roy Williams said he supported McAdoo's decision "100 percent."
